Run Free at McChesney Park in Port St. Lucie, Florida

port st. lucie coast

Whether you’re a dog owner with an energetic pup, or you’re just looking for a great, safe space to take the kids, McChesney Park is the perfect place to unwind. Featuring a giant dog park that’s divided into three separate fenced-in compounds for small, medium, and large dog breeds, there’s plenty of space for your pets to stretch their legs, play fetch, and expend their energy. These lush, green parks are furnished with benches, water fountains, shaded areas, and an obstacle course for the animals—basically everything you need to get their tails wagging.

The park has several waste stations that are equipped with bags and disposal containers, so you won’t have to worry about packing your own. (Just make sure you’re diligent about picking up after your pup.) Unfortunately, the park does not have any lights, so when you spot the sun setting that’s your sign to head home.

While McChesney Park is a canine paradise, the fun isn’t only reserved for those on four legs. If you have any energy of your own to expend, there are six soccer fields with lights where you can play late into the night. Or, if you prefer a more sedentary approach, you can stop by the park’s pavilion, where you’ll find a series of large tables and a grill—the ideal venue for a post-match celebration. There’s also a fenced playground featuring a multi-purpose play unit—including a climbing wall—for kids between ages 2 and 12. And even the anglers have somewhere to congregate with an on-site lake where fishing is permitted.

The park has received hundreds of glowing reviews since it was established in 1995, with visitors saying that it is well-maintained, clean, and safe. “Great family atmosphere, and a wonderful space to just play and have fun,” writes local guide Enrique R. on Google reviews.

Conveniently located, this park is an easy after-work stop off or weekend caper, whether you want to give your dogs some exercise, stretch your legs, or spend quality time with the kids. If you would prefer to avoid the crowds, it’s best to visit the park either mid-morning or early afternoon.
